About dadsgrl

Hi all, I am a 30 year old mother of two and currently pregnant. Prior to the maojr recession, my husband and I decided that I should stay home while pregnant and raise the baby. She is now 11 months, I am 4 months pregnant, and I can't get a job. My husband works in sales and the recession has hit his company badly, he has lost about 1000 a month in income. Our rent was due yesterday and we don't have it, the electric and gas are due this week to avoid shutoff and we don't have it. The state of NJ only gives you help if you are 175% below the poverty level, since we are only 150% below poverty they won't help!!! I am desperate and willing to do anything to make enough money without having to spend what I make just to put my kids in daycare.  Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated!!!

About jlroth

My name is Jenny and I have a husband and three children. We have been hit hard by the recession, and my husband, who used to make good money doing permanent cosmetics (he has been applying permanent cosmetics for 14 years, which is longer than anyone in our area ~ or state for that matter ~ and has an excellent reputation). However, people are not spending money on personal things during the recession, and we had decided that he should leave the tattoo shop he worked in to work out of a hair salon because women are less intimidated to go there, and we have no money for advertisement (and of course, at the tattoo shop he worked at for 9 years, they tell people he moved out of state). I then got laid off as a International Supply Chain Manager for a major sunglass company, because my job was to work with the suppliers and freight forwarders in China, but my company bought Polaroid, a European based company, who already had a worker on the dock in China, so it made sense to keep him there and get rid of my job because I had a 24 hour turn around in communication with them due to the time change. However, when I was laid off, I asked the Personnel Rep to write me a letter stating I was laid off and he put in the letter that I would not be returning (because my job was dissolved) and this letter was for unemployment compensation. But when I called the employment agency that got me the job there, whom I had always had an excellent reputation with, they said they had to call to see if I was on re-hire status. They were told "no". When I investigated, the Personnel Rep was someone else, my manager (the Vice President of Logistics)) was no longer there, and there was no exit review in my file or anything stating one way or another whether I was rehireable or not. There was absolutely no negative information in my file, and the only review in my file (the only one I received) was well above average, and had gotten me promoted form $10.00 per hour to $38,500 per year. I asked them who put the "no rehire" in the computer and she did not have an answer but refused to change it. Therefore, I could not go through the employment agency, and I'm not sure who to report this to. My husband and I have both been looking for permanent work, but to no avail. I have a 7 year old daughter which my husband adopted, and his two girls, 14 and 16 have lived with us for four years. Their mother got addicted to crack and has been inconsistent to say the least, but has never paid anything in child support. Five days ago she was admitted to the hospital with a brain tumor and tomorrow they do the biopsy. I have told her that she can come and live with us after her release from the hospital because I want my daughters (her daughters, whom I consider mine) to know their mother as much as possible before she dies, so we will put all else aside and make sure she is not roaming the streets incoherent and getting hurt in her last days. One more bad thing. I had my license suspended 4 years ago for too many speeding tickets in too short a period of time (no dui's or accidents), and then got it reinstated. Last year I received another ticket, and was supposed to take the driver's class for it. I had 90 days. The week before my time was up to take the test, our very close friend went into the hospital on the other side of the state and had to have his leg removed. We were there for him, but I had no access to internet and could not take the test (I know that is my own fault for waiting to the last minute). My license was suspended again. I finally got all court costs paid off, and only needed to go down to the DMV and pay $47.50 to get my license back, but we were in financial trouble, and I hadn't done it yet. I got pulled over twice for taillight issues, and when I went to court I got my license suspended for five years (habitual offender) without the option for a hardship license (one to get back and forth to work only until one year had passed). If I didn't work at all, we would have been evicted. Last week I got pulled over on brake light not working and arrested. I owe the courts $450.00 from court costs last time, have to obtain SR-22 insurance, and get my hardship license (I can get it in Oct.) before I go to trial. Otherwise, I will go to jail for 6 months and my family will no doubt be evicted. Not to mention I have no idea how I am going to obtain employment because everything I see on the internet is a scam. I am great with computers, but have bad luck in finding employment that would allow me not to drive. I am about as depressed as I have ever been, and I don't know where to turn. Our bills are outrageous, and we need to improve our home for energy efficiency because our electric bill is constantly $300.00 because the people who owned the home before me expanded the house themselves, and the air conditioner is not big enough for the house and is as old as the house (1978), and our water is outrageous, too. We have tried conserving everywhere we can and it is not working. I don't know what to do or where to start and that is really not like me. I am usually a self-starter who accomplishes things the right way the first time and have never had a problem obtaining employment. Now I feel my hands are tied, my future is uncertain, and I have let my family down at every turn. If anyone has any suggestions, please take the time to write. Thank you for listening, Jenny

Free Lipitor, Viagra, and other drugs for jobless

Free Lipitor, Viagra, Other Drugs For Jobless

Pfizer To Offer Prescriptions To People Who Have Lost Their Jobs, Health Insurance.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) ― Pfizer Inc.

says it will provide 70 of its most widely prescribed prescription drugs -- including Lipitor and Viagra -- for free to people who have lost their jobs and health insurance.

The world's biggest drugmaker said Thursday it will give away the medicines for up to a year to Americans who lost jobs since Jan. 1 and have been on the Pfizer drug for three months or more.

The announcement comes amid massive job losses caused by the recession and a campaign in Washington to rein in health care costs and extend coverage. The move could earn Pfizer some goodwill in that debate after long being a target of critics of drug industry prices and sales practices.

The program also likely will help keep those patients loyal to Pfizer brands.

"Everybody knows now a neighbor, a relative who has lost their job and is losing their insurance. People are definitely hurting out there," Dr. Jorge Puente, Pfizer's head of pharmaceuticals outside the U.S. and Europe and a champion of the project, told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview Wednesday. "Our aim is to help people bridge this point."

The idea for the program came just five weeks ago, at a leadership training meeting, as the workers discussed how many patients are struggling, Puente said.

He said he urged top management to approve the program, presenting a recent Associated Press article about how newly uninsured diabetics are suffering serious complications because they can no longer afford the medicines and testing supplies. Approval came quickly.

"It was my idea," he said. "I floated it, and the reception it got was so dramatic that it very quickly became our idea."

Colleagues suggested employees could donate to a fund to help support the effort, Puente said. He said some employees had tears in their eyes when discussing how they could help people who had lost jobs.

Officials for New York-based Pfizer said they don't know how much the program will cost and haven't put a cap on spending for it.

Applicants will have to sign a statement that they are suffering financial hardship and provide a "pink slip" or similar employer notice. Applications will be accepted through Dec. 31, with medication provided for up to 12 months after approval -- or until the person becomes insured again.

Starting Thursday, patients can call a toll-free number, 866-706-2400, to sign up, and those whose drugs are not included in the program will be referred to other company aid programs. Starting July 1, patients can also apply through the Web site, PfizerHelpfulAnswers.com, which has information about the other Pfizer aid programs.

Pfizer and the rest of the drug industry are trying to have a voice in the debate over how to overhaul the U.S. health care system, partly by joining in a pledge this week to help hold down inflation of health costs.

"There's a long-term benefit there, beyond the goodwill and the publicity," said David Heupel, health care portfolio manager at Thrivent Large Cap Growth Fund. "Pfizer is trying to maintain their (market) share, if not grow their share" by keeping people from switching to generic versions of its drugs to save money.

"If you're already taking medication that's working, typically doctors don't push to change it," Heupel said.

Pfizer's program comes at a time when many drugmakers, including Pfizer, have been raising prices on their drugs, partly to offset declines in revenue as the global recession reduces the number of prescriptions people can afford to fill.

The 70-plus drugs covered in the program include several diabetes drugs and some of Pfizer's top money makers, from cholesterol fighter Lipitor and painkiller Celebrex to fibromyalgia treatment Lyrica and Viagra for impotence. Drugs from several other popular classes such as antibiotics, antidepressants, antifungal treatments, heart mediations, contraceptives and smoking cessation products also are included. Cheaper generic versions are available for quite a few of the drugs.

Click here for the entire list of drugs that are a part of the 'jobless offer' (.doc file).

Pfizer said that from 2004 through 2008, its patient assistance programs helped 5.1 million people get 51 million Pfizer prescriptions for free or at reduced cost, with a total value of $4.8 billion

About amace18

My family is in extreme trouble.  My parents have worked hard for 20 years and now have nothing to show for it.  Both still make 100,000 a year combined and we still are on the brink of losing it all.  Recently our 7 year old dog was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer.  We have to make the decision to put him down or get rid of our three other animals to pay for his treatment. Our pets are a huge part of our lives.  My question is how can people work so hard, be good citizens, pay there bills, and now we are just left to suffer and figure it out?  When will all this end? It is tearing my family and my parents 20 year marriage apart.  We need help.

Please Help Us

It is my heart-felt dream to have a savings account just for my sons and me. My heartless husband doesn't give us any money. He hides all the money. He only takes us shopping twice a year. He has cut off all my resources and strengths. My boys, ages 11 and 16 escape the abuse by staying with friends. There is no escape for me. I am a hostage in my own home. I have a car,but no money for gas,and no money to go places. I dream about taking my boys and me shopping, out to eat,and to movies. It hurts me deeply, grieves me painfully that I can't provide any of this. I can't work due to serious health problems. We need money so that we can enjoy life,so that we can have some happiness. We can't even go to the store for a soda each.  Please help my children and me. Please.

Please help

I'm not the kind of person who asks for much, and especially not money.  I'm usually the one fundraising to help out others.  But now I find myself in a real dilemma.  If you know anything about the state of Michigan, we've been in a one state recession for over a year now.  In April of 2006 I lost my job.  My husband has not worked since 2004 and is legally disabled.  While he gets disability, it's not much.  His medications alone cost almost $200.00 a month.  And last September he was hospitalized for 11 days.  We have over $20,000 in debts I am trying to pay.  I finally found a part time job, but it doesn't even cover my housing & utilities. More often than not, we have to scrounge bottles & cans in order to be able to buy food.  I live in a single wide, 30-year old mobile home.  I was fortunate enough to get the county where I live to provide new doors for me last year but now there's a huge split in my kitchen floor.  Of course there's no insurance on the home or my truck.  I pray every time I drive back & forth to work that nothing happens.  If anyone can find it in their heart to make a contribution, I would be forever grateful.  And just as soon as I am back on my feet, I will pay it forward and monitor this site to see who I can help.  I do have a paypal account and you can email me at quiltbugg8972@yahoo.com. Thank you for listening and for your kindness.  God Bless!
